These Chocolate Sugar Cookies are rich in cocoa flavor and rolled in sugar, making them perfect for any occasion, especially during the holidays.

- 1 3/4 cups (228g) all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup (85g) natural unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup (224g) unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1 1/2 cups (310g) granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup sugar (additional for rolling)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats. Set aside.
- Combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl. Whisk together and set aside.
- Cream together the room-temperature butter and granulated sugar in a large mixing bowl on medium speed until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Pour in the vanilla extract and mix until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
- Bring the dough together with a rubber spatula to form a cohesive ball.
- Scoop about 1 1/2 tablespoons of dough and roll into a ball, then roll in the additional sugar to coat.
- Arrange the sugar-coated balls on the prepared baking sheet and press down slightly on the tops.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 7-8 minutes.
- Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheet for 4-5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Notes
For added flavor, consider adding mint extract, nuts, chocolate chips, or spices. Dough can be prepared a day in advance.
