Description

A cozy, creamy casserole combining tender potatoes, savory ground beef, and gooey melted cheese—perfect for any dinner table.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4 medium potatoes, peeled and sliced thin
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 to 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • Garlic powder, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190 °C).
  2. Place the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat, cooking for 7 to 10 minutes until fully browned.
  3. Drain excess fat from the skillet.
  4. Add the chopped onion and sauté for 3 to 4 minutes until translucent.
  5. Sprinkle salt, pepper, and garlic powder over the beef-onion mix, stirring for another minute.
  6. Slice the potatoes as thinly as possible and layer half in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, seasoning with salt and pepper.
  7. Spread the beef-onion mix evenly over the potatoes.
  8. Top with the remaining potato slices and set aside.
  9. Whisk together milk and melted butter, and pour it over the layers.
  10. Sprinkle shredded cheese evenly over the top.
  11. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  12. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 to 20 minutes, until cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  13. Check doneness by poking a fork into the potatoes; they should be tender.
  14. Let the casserole rest for about 10 minutes before slicing.
