Deliciously moist banana bread brownies topped with rich brown butter frosting, perfect for any occasion.

- 1½ cups sugar
- 1 cup sour cream
- ½ cup butter, softened
- 1¾ cups ripe bananas, mashed
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ¾ tsp salt
- ½ cup chopped walnuts (optional)
- ½ cup butter (for frosting)
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1½ tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
- 3 Tbsp milk
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare a 15×10 inch baking pan by greasing and flouring it.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat together the sugar, sour cream, softened butter, and eggs until creamy.
- Gently fold in the mashed bananas and vanilla extract.
- Add all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. Combine well and fold in walnuts if using.
- Pour batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly. Bake for 20–25 minutes until edges are golden.
- While baking, prepare the brown butter frosting by browning the butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
- In a medium bowl, stir browned butter into powdered sugar; mix in vanilla extract and milk until smooth.
- Once baked, spread warm frosting over the brownies and allow to cool before slicing.
Notes
Make these brownies in advance and frost them the next day for best flavor. Store in an airtight container.
