Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Stir in the orange juice, orange zest, and vanilla extract.
- Mix the flour, baking powder, and salt in another bowl. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients until just combined.
- Divide the batter between the prepared pans and smooth the tops.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
- Whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form, gradually adding powdered sugar to stiff peaks.
- Spread frosting on one cake layer, place the second layer on top, and frost the entire cake.
- Decorate with fresh orange slices before serving.
