Description
This comforting bread pudding, paired with warm vanilla caramel sauce, is a delightful dessert perfect for chilly evenings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups of bread, cubed (preferably stale bread for the best texture)
- 2 cups of milk
- 1 cup of heavy cream
- 3/4 cup of sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 cup of raisins (optional)
- 1 cup of caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Combine the milk, heavy cream, sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Whisk until well combined and creamy.
- Add the cubed bread and raisins (if using) to the mixture. Stir gently to coat all the bread pieces with the custard.
- Let the bread soak in the mixture for about 15 minutes.
- Pour the soaked bread mixture into a greased baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Prepare the vanilla caramel sauce while the pudding is baking by warming it gently on the stove or in the microwave.
- Drizzle the warm caramel sauce over the bread pudding just before serving.
Notes
Stale bread is key for texture. You can prepare the mixture the night before and refrigerate overnight.
