Description

This comforting bread pudding, paired with warm vanilla caramel sauce, is a delightful dessert perfect for chilly evenings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups of bread, cubed (preferably stale bread for the best texture)
  • 2 cups of milk
  • 1 cup of heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup of sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 cup of raisins (optional)
  • 1 cup of caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Combine the milk, heavy cream, sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Whisk until well combined and creamy.
  3. Add the cubed bread and raisins (if using) to the mixture. Stir gently to coat all the bread pieces with the custard.
  4. Let the bread soak in the mixture for about 15 minutes.
  5. Pour the soaked bread mixture into a greased baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
  6. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Prepare the vanilla caramel sauce while the pudding is baking by warming it gently on the stove or in the microwave.
  8. Drizzle the warm caramel sauce over the bread pudding just before serving.

Notes

Stale bread is key for texture. You can prepare the mixture the night before and refrigerate overnight.
