Description

A comforting and hearty dish of spaghetti with savory Italian sausage and rich tomato sauce, perfect for weeknight dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz spaghetti
  • 1 lb Italian sausage
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 28 oz canned tomatoes (diced or crushed)
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Cook the spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside, saving a splash of pasta water for later.
  2. Heat a drizzle of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  3. Add chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until the onion becomes translucent—about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Incorporate the Italian sausage, breaking it apart with a spatula. Sauté until browned—roughly 6-8 minutes.
  5. Stir in the canned tomatoes and sprinkle in Italian seasoning. Allow to simmer for 10-15 minutes until thickened.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Toss in the cooked spaghetti, mixing until coated in sauce. Use reserved pasta water if necessary.
  8. Serve hot, topped with parmesan cheese and fresh basil.

Notes

This sauce can be made in advance and stored in the fridge. Leftovers keep well for up to 3 days.
