- 4 large potatoes, sliced
- 1 small head of cabbage, chopped
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 cups of sour cream
- 1 cup of shredded cheese (e.g., cheddar or gouda)
- 2 tablespoons of butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon of garlic powder (optional)
- Breadcrumbs (for topping, optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Melt the butter over medium heat in a large pan. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent and fragrant.
- Add the chopped cabbage to the onion and continue to cook until softened. Season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Grease a baking dish and create layers starting with the sliced potatoes, followed by the sautéed cabbage mixture.
- Spread sour cream over the layers, then sprinkle with shredded cheese.
- Sprinkle breadcrumbs over the cheese layer for a crispy topping, if desired.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 40-45 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Allow the casserole to cool slightly before serving.
