Description

A decadent Salted Caramel Chocolate Fudge Cake featuring layers of rich chocolate cake filled with creamy salted caramel and topped with chocolate fudge frosting.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup salted caramel sauce
  • 1 cup chocolate fudge frosting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes until well blended.
  4. Stir in boiling water (note: the batter will be thin). Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
  5. Bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Allow the cakes to cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  7. Spread salted caramel sauce between the layers of the cake for a luscious filling.
  8. Top the cake generously with chocolate fudge frosting. Drizzle additional salted caramel sauce on top if desired.

Notes

Feel free to fold in chopped nuts, use cream cheese frosting between layers, or add fresh berries on top for variation.
