Description

Deliciously warm apple fritters made with sourdough discard, perfect for cozy autumn days.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup sourdough discard
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 apple, peeled and diced
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the sourdough discard, flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and sugar. Mix until well blended.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together the egg and milk until smooth.
  3. Combine the wet mixture with the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Fold in the diced apples.
  4. Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  6. Remove from oil and let drain on paper towels.
  7. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Make ahead for convenience and choose firm, tart apples for best results.
