Description
A delightful apple pie infused with warm spices and sweet apples, perfect for chilly evenings and family gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 Perfect Pie Crust Recipe
- ¼ cup butter
- 8 cups thinly sliced apples (peeled and cored)
- 2/3 cup lightly packed brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon water
- Coarse sugar (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and set aside a 9-inch pie plate.
- Melt the butter in a large pot over medium-low heat. Add in the sliced apples, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, lemon juice, and salt. Stir well and cook for 8 to 10 minutes until the apples soften. Set aside to cool slightly.
- Roll out one disc of pie dough to about 1/8-inch thick, ensuring it’s slightly larger than your pie plate. Carefully transfer it into the pie plate.
- Combine the egg and water in a small bowl to create an egg wash.
- Transfer the cooled apple filling into the prepared crust and spread it evenly. Roll out the second disc of dough for the top. Cut vents if using solid dough.
- Trim excess dough, crimp the edges to seal, brush with the egg wash, and sprinkle with coarse sugar if desired.
- Bake for 15 minutes at 425°F, then reduce the heat to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for about 40 minutes until the crust is golden brown.
- Allow the pie to cool before serving.
Notes
You can prepare the pie filling a day ahead; simply store it in the refrigerator. Warm slices in the microwave or oven for a few minutes before serving.
